The recent child porn ring bust raises a pressing question. What is the punishment for the crime of abusing, exploiting, selling, and degrading children? I feel that a crime of this nature against children is the vilest and demands justice. According to U.S. policy, found in the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000 and the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2003 the minimum standards against human trafficking are:
- prohibit and punish acts of trafficking
- prescribe punishment commensurate with that for grave crimes, such as forcible sexual assault, for knowing commission of trafficking in some of its most reprehensible forms (trafficking for sexual purposes, trafficking involving rape or kidnapping, or trafficking that causes a death)
- prescribe punishment that is sufficiently stringent to deter, and that adequately reflects the offense’s heinous nature
- make serious and sustained efforts to eliminate trafficking
This is an international campaign working against Human Trafficking. The State Department reports annually on the national and international progress in abolishing human trafficking. (To watch or read this years report.) Every country is expected to adhere to the four “minimum standards” stated above. The United States amended the penalties for selling people into “involuntary servitude” by doubling the years of imprisonment from 10 years to 20 years. Also, they added, “the possibility of life imprisonment for such violations resulting in death or involving kidnapping, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to kill”. There is a concentrated effort nationally and internationally to regulate human trafficking and modern slavery, but is 20 years enough? If your child was forced into the hands of a trafficker, mistreated, poorly fed, and had their childhood stripped from them, would you feel that 20 years was a fair penalty?
Child Trafficking 
I feel that it depends on the situation that each child has incurred but I do feel that generally speaking it should be more than 20 years for each offender. If you look at what is going on in society with this obviously they will just get out and do it again. So I think that it is important to just shut them up forever and help them to learn and never be able to do it again.
I definately agree with Scott.There has to be an end to this NOW!! 20 years should be long enough to have them think about what they are doing. If it happens again then there should be longer years AND community service.If no action is being token then more and more people and countries will start child slavery and other forms of slavery. But we want to stop this before it gets bigger so that it wont spread and become a bigger problem than what it already is.

I think 20 years its nothing. A joke really. When you are a child you are not prepared in any way for any kind of violence. You dont have the physical, emotional, social skills that “could” lower the damage of any kind of violence. What I mean is this, if for an adult violence is very hard for a child there is no “words to explain it”. So 20 yers is a joke.
They will come back to exploit more children. They exploit children in the first place because they are alone, they are still growing up and they are easy targets. Those cowards prefer to deal with them because they are alone and they dont know all the rules… So they will come back for more…
But things are not so simple.
Many times those guys and women have been victims themselves in childwood… These things are complicated… but I dont beleive in letting them go easily.
In my opinion, there is no excuse for harming a child. No excuse. Those who intentionally abuse, harm, or exploit a child deserve the harshest of penalties. Twenty years seems like a light slap on the wrists. No, the punishment must be more severe if we are to call it “justice.”

There is no amount of time served that can make up for the loss of inocence and horror that these children endure. I think it should be life in prison without parole….period.
Its hard to put an amount of years for the punishment! Honestly if they are selling children for sex or anything else that should be life in prison without parole. Cause if you are sick enough to hurt a child then you shouldn’t ever get the chance to be free. In my eyes that’s as bad as murder. The poor kids will have to live the rest of there lives in fear & will never be the same. Children should never be put in that type of situation. If not life in prison then make sure it is pretty darn close like others have said & at least 20years per kid. Its a shame that we even have this type of problem I just don’t see how anyone could ever hurt a child!

They should be subjected to the same cruelty they inflicted on their victims.
