Over the past two years, U.S. federal agents have delved into an investigation against an international child porn ring. This group of 1,000 members, at its peak, have been using social networking to exploit children. Their network was highly private and secured by password. U.S. Attorney Steven D. DeBrota said, “to join the group, a person had to be sponsored by a member and voted on by other members.” They shared over 1 million pornographic images, offered advise to each other regarding images and avoiding law enforcement. It’s upsetting for me to see people are joining together from around the world on the Internet to exploit children. This week, thirty-five ring members were convicted for distributing child pornography with a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
Those involved in child trafficking and exploitation are highly organized and difficult to find. This child porn ring is still under investigation to find more perpetrators in Asia, France, Germany, England, Africa, and South America.
